That's some hilariously bad writing. The fact that they had to make that CGI model of two boats meeting in the ocean and show it visually instead of just letting her speak the line is hilarious.

Some TV shows seriously need a technical adviser. 

They probably do have several people on staff who know what IRC is and all about IPs and ports and all sorts of shit grounded in reality... and those people explain how things really are and the producer and director and screenwriter say, "Wow, that sounds really fucking boring." And thus you end up with this.

I bet more of them just get a glassy eyed stare so the writers have to come up with something else. Or someone just has to jingle their keys a bit to get the producer and directors attention.

Every single computer related thing in that movie about computer hackers was absolutely painfully retarded. I mean, the computer virus is shown as a fullscreen animated worm thingy. The giant computer they hack into is a bunch of transparent glass towers.

But I still love Hackers, and owned both soundtracks at one point.

Holy shit! No I didn't. The second one sucked bad enough though that I probably wouldn't have bought the third even if I knew about it. Which is probably why I never bothered looking for it.

Lol... I only found out about the third album a few months ago. The tracks look horrendously bad. I downloaded it though and, yes, they are painful. The first two albums though are pretty awesome.

Underworld - Cowgirl
Orbital - Halcyon & On & On
The Prodigy - Voodoo People
Squeeze - Heaven Knows

The second album had some fantastic songs though that easily rivaled the first:

BT feat. Jan Johnston - Remember
Underworld - Cherry Pie
Chicane - Offshore (Disco Citizens Edit)
Luce Drayton - To Be Loved (Disco Citizen R+D Edit)

The third album was epic fail though. "Quiet Then" by Cloak is half-way decent because it has John Jonston on the vocals... but otherwise the song is pretty stupid. Even the songs by BT (Godspeed), Orbital (An Fhomhair), and Chicane (Strong In Love) are ridiculously out of place.
