This is high-speed photography of a sword slicing an egg. The egg looks red inside because of the way light scatters through eggshell and because the film is very dark.

This thing cut off too early to see the 40 gallons of blood that exploded out of each half of the egg.

Agreed, Basho. We demand to see a sword actually cutting dynamite.

Slower The Dynamite

My hopes were high. And they were shattered, right after the egg.

An egg... why?

Yah eggs are for breakfast, not for slicing. I was hoping I was going to see a sword and later a burn victim.

More of what? The 53 seconds of a egg splitting apart or more than 22 seconds of the katana?

Wow. Comparing how fast the sword is moving to how long it takes for gravity to take visible effect on the egg, you can tell that was a hella fast ninja slice.

I like the one with the tea in the plastic bottle cause they show the real-time speed first which is quicker than a person usually blinks. I'm guessing that not only do these guys have high speed cameras but they really know how to handle the weapon.

They used an egg to demonstrate the speed and cleanliness of the cut. Also to show how sharo the blade is. Think, if half of us were to try this it would like like we hit the egg with a hammer. Only someone skilled with that sword could cut an egg so cleanly that the shell didn't even shatter. Rather it sliced through it, making two almost perfectly cut pieces of egg shell.

I love super slow motion. The item being sliced could have been a little more interesting, but it's cool to see any action being slowed down that much.

At least this is one area which video can't compete in. Super slow motion is still only capable with film.

Is it just me, or does the person's arm appear to be moving at a slower frame rate? It's almost like for every 10 frames of the egg moving, the arm moves one frame.

I'm not sure if they're using overtones or what, but at least one of these guys has a great future in death metal when he's tired of ice skating. If you can't get enough, here is another example, performed live.

Overtone singing, also known as overtone chanting, harmonic singing, is a type of singing in which the singer manipulates the harmonic resonances (or formants) created as air travels from the lungs, past the vocal folds, and out the lips. -Wikipedia
