Photographer and historian Marc Hermann has done a beautiful job pulling historic crime scene photos from the New York Daily News archive to blend them with photographs of the same locations today. For those who live in New York now, it may be easy to forget just how rough the city was in the not-too-distant past. (Contains some graphic images.)

What would appear to be a serious GoPro aficionado has a little fun with his cameras.
We're all alive right now to know what 2013 is like. Some of us can tell stories about life 30 years ago. But most of us have no clue what life was like 60 years ago. This fantastic video by the BBC compares that whole timespan. It shows the same exact train ride filmed in 1953, 1983 and 2013, to reveal the difference of 60 years.
Green Shoe Studio held a singer-songwriter contest. They received an entry from 96-year old Fred Stobaugh. He wrote a song for his wife Lorraine, who recently passed away. Fred and Lorraine were married for 75 years.
Someone's cuttin' onions in here.
This may be one of the single greatest things I've ever seen...

The story of an architecture student who bought a school bus on a whim and converted it into a home. To test its functionality, he then took it on a 5000 mile journey across the US with a photographer and some friends.

This website aspires to be a beautiful and interactive resource for skeptics and believers alike to explore some of the more negative aspects of holy books. It was heavily inspired by the Reason Project's poster of biblical contradictions, which in turn was inspired by Chris Harrison's Bible Visualizations.
Last year, a pair of researchers from Duke University published a report with a bold title: “The End of the Segregated Century.” U.S. cities, the authors concluded, were less segregated in 2012 than they had been at any point since 1910. But less segregated does not necessarily mean integrated–something this incredible map makes clear in vivd color.
Julia Child famously said that fat carries flavor, but perhaps instead we should give thanks to 4-methylpentanoic acid. Unique combinations of such chemical compounds give foods their characteristic flavors. Science-minded chefs have gone so far as to suggest that seemingly incongruous ingredients—chocolate and blue cheese, for example—will taste great together as long as they have enough flavor compounds in common. Scientists recently put this hypothesis to the test by creating a flavor map, a variant of which we have reproduced here.
On July 11, 2012 Martin Manley decided he was going to end his life on August 15, 2013. His 60th birthday. In the time in between he has been busy creating an elaborate website all about his life and death. Pretty morbid read, but a really deep and in depth look at considering suicide.

If the skies are clear Friday night around 11:27 p.m. ET, there's a fair chance that anyone from as far south as South Carolina, west into Ohio and on over to New England will be able to see something of NASA's first launch of a mission to the moon from the agency's spaceport on Wallops Island, Va. There's also a live feed from NASA for everyone else (link in article).

Photographs have long been used to record special and unique moments – birthdays, weddings and the occasional selfie are all commonplace. But these next 30 photographs go beyond the norm – they encapsulate the mood, tone and values of yesteryear, a compelling account of the evolution of our values if you will.
Seen a few of these before, but some are new, at least to me. Either way, enjoy.

What a joy it is to watch this video take off and know so many people are getting a good laugh from me pulling celery out of my beard. This stop motion video was built over time--lots of time--with an iPhone app called Stop Motion Studio (there are similar apps for Android). I edited it further in Adobe Premiere Pro on my PC by syncing it to music.
